Medicare Plans
Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plans in Dallas, TX
Original Medicare covers a large share of hospital and doctor bills, not the whole amount. A Medicare Supplement plan, known as Medigap, fills in the deductibles, coinsurance and copays Medicare leaves on the table, so your annual cost stays close to fixed no matter how many appointments you have.
Every Medigap plan is standardized by letter across Texas. A Plan G from one carrier pays the same benefits as a Plan G from another. What separates the companies is price, service quality and how aggressively they raise rates over the years.
- Keep any doctor who takes Medicare
- Predictable monthly premium, few surprises
- No referrals and no provider network
- Travel coverage anywhere in the U.S.

How it works
Medicare pays first, your Medigap plan pays what's left
You keep Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) as your primary coverage. When you visit UT Southwestern Medical Center, Baylor University Medical Center or any clinic near Preston Hollow that accepts Medicare, the claim routes to Medicare first. Whatever Medicare doesn't pay flows automatically to your Medigap company, so most members never see a bill beyond the annual Part B deductible.
Because there's no network to worry about, you never have to check whether a specialist in Lakewood or Oak Cliff is "in plan." If the provider accepts Medicare, you're covered, whether you're at home in Dallas or visiting grandkids out of state. Medigap doesn't include drug coverage, so most members pair it with a standalone Part D drug plan.
Compare
Plan G vs. Plan N vs. High-Deductible Plan G
| Plan | Monthly premium | What you pay | Best suited for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plan G | Highest of the three | Only the annual Part B deductible | People who want the fewest bills and the most predictable year |
| Plan N | Moderate | Part B deductible, small office and ER copays, possible excess charges | Healthy members who see doctors occasionally and want a lower premium |
| High-Deductible Plan G | Lowest | Full Plan G benefits after you meet a high annual deductible | Budget-focused members comfortable with more risk in a bad year |
Rates rise every year, the plan itself doesn't change
Medigap benefits are locked by law, so a rate increase is the only thing to track. We re-shop your Plan G or Plan N each year so you're not paying a loyalty penalty for staying with the same carrier.
Medigap does not include prescriptions
Pair it with a separate Part D plan. Skipping it when you're first eligible can trigger a lifelong late penalty.
Timing
Your open enrollment window matters more than anything else
For six months starting the month your Part B begins, you can buy any Medigap plan sold in Texas with no health questions asked. That window is the one time a diagnosis can't raise your price or get an application declined.
Once that window closes, Texas carriers can medically underwrite new applications. Most people still qualify, but recent heart procedures, oxygen use or insulin-dependent diabetes can narrow your options. If you're turning 65, start the conversation about three months ahead of time.
- Six-month guaranteed-issue window starts with Part B
- No network, no referrals, no annual plan shopping
- Guaranteed renewable as long as you pay the premium
- Special guaranteed-issue rights apply if a plan leaves your area

Underwriting
Applying outside a protected period
Inside your six-month Medigap open enrollment window, or when a guaranteed-issue right applies, health questions don't come up at all. Outside those windows, Texas carriers may underwrite: they'll ask about diagnoses, procedures, medications and pending tests, and they can decline the application or price it higher.
Guaranteed-issue rights apply in specific situations: your Advantage plan leaves the Dallas service area, an employer retiree plan ends, a carrier misled you, or you're still inside the 12-month trial right after first joining an Advantage plan at 65. These windows are short and easy to miss, which is why we review your medical history before starting an application instead of after a decline.
If underwriting looks like it will be a problem, we say so up front and look at Medicare Advantage instead of letting you collect a decline on your record.
Rates
Rate increases, travel, and the yearly re-shop
How Medigap rates change
Benefits stay fixed by law, so price is the only moving part. Texas carriers typically price by attained age, meaning your premium climbs as you get older and again whenever the carrier files a general rate increase. Two companies selling an identical Plan G can drift far apart in price over five years.
We re-check your premium every year against the other carriers we represent in Dallas. Switching usually requires passing underwriting, so it's a decision worth making while you're healthy, not after a diagnosis.
Travel and access
Backed by Original Medicare, Medigap works with any provider nationwide who accepts Medicare. There's no out-of-area rule, no referral, and nothing to check before seeing a specialist near Klyde Warren Park, in Fort Worth, or out of state.
Some Medigap plans include limited foreign travel emergency coverage. It's capped and carries a deductible, useful, but not a substitute for standalone travel medical insurance on a longer trip abroad.
