Questions

What Dallas seniors ask us most

Does it cost anything to work with Dallas Senior Insurance?
No, our help costs you nothing. Carriers build a set commission into plan pricing whether you enroll through an agent or on your own, so working with our agents never raises what you pay in Dallas County or anywhere else.
When can I first enroll in Medicare?
Most people get a seven-month Initial Enrollment Period: three months before your 65th birthday month, the birthday month, and three months after. Enrolling early, especially if you live near Richardson or Garland and want your Dallas North Tollway commute uninterrupted, keeps coverage starting on time.
Can I keep my current doctors?
With Original Medicare plus a Medigap plan, yes, any provider who accepts Medicare works, from Preston Hollow to Pleasant Grove. With Medicare Advantage it comes down to the network, so we check your doctors and hospital against each plan's current directory before you sign anything.
Is Medicare Advantage better than Medigap?
Neither wins outright. Medigap costs more each month but very little at the point of care, with no network to worry about. Advantage costs less monthly but runs on copays and a network, and usually bundles drug coverage and extras. The right pick depends on your doctors, your prescriptions, and how much cost swing you can tolerate.
What happens if I don't sign up for Part B on time?
Unless active employer coverage protects you, Medicare tacks on 10% to your Part B premium for every full 12 months you delayed, and that surcharge usually sticks for life. Try our Part B penalty calculator to see your number.
I don't take any prescriptions. Do I still need Part D?
Almost always, yes. Going 63 days or longer without creditable drug coverage after you're eligible triggers a permanent Part D penalty. A low-cost plan today nearly always beats paying that penalty for the rest of your life.
Do I have to change plans every year?
No, but you should review. Networks, drug tiers, and copays reset every January 1. A fifteen-minute check each fall is usually enough to confirm your plan still fits, or to catch a change before it costs you.
Which hospitals do Dallas Medicare plans use?
This is where Dallas gets tricky. Our hospital market is unusually dense, with UT Southwestern, Baylor University Medical Center, Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas, Methodist Dallas Medical Center, and Medical City all contracting separately with different carriers. A plan that covers your specialist near NorthPark Center may drop your Methodist doctor over in Oak Cliff the very next year, so we confirm the current directory before you ever pick a plan.
Can you help if I'm under 65 and on Medicare due to disability?
Yes. Rules differ for under-65 Medicare beneficiaries in Texas, particularly around Medigap underwriting. A licensed agent will walk through exactly what is open to you given your situation.
Do you serve towns outside Dallas proper?
We work across Dallas County and the surrounding suburbs, including Richardson, Garland, Irving, Mesquite, Carrollton, DeSoto, and Cedar Hill. A lot of our clients also retired from airlines or the Richardson telecom corridor, so we're used to sorting out retiree coverage and COBRA timing alongside Medicare.
